July 2007Tina Owen, Lead Teacher of The Alliance School has been named a 2007 Point Scholar. The Point Foundation gives out scholarships to meritorious LGBTQ students and their allies. March 2007Paul Moore and Tina Owen attended and presented at the Oxford Round Table on Charter Schools, at Harris Manchester College, in Oxford this month. They hope to publish an article entitled "Creating Safe Spaces for Education" for the Forum on Public Policy. June 1 2006The Alliance School graduated its first class of seniors. The Journal Sentinel talks about The Alliance School May 26 2005The Board of Directors for Milwaukee Public Schools approved a five year contract with The Alliance School. Thank you to all of those MPS and TALC people who have helped us come to this point. A special thanks goes out to Marty Lexmond, Juanita Lee, Jodi Goldberg and Bobbi Aguero. The four of you have been such great supporters, and we appreciate you endlessly. We would also like to thank Jennifer Morales and Peter Blewitt for their continued support and all of the wonderful people at Central Services who have been there every step of the way with answers to questions and hours of one on one help. Thank you so much! May 13 2005Thank you to everyone who took the time to come out to our fundraiser event at Bucketworks on Friday, May 13th. It was so much fun. We would also like to thank all of the performers for making the night one to remember. Thank you! May 10 2005Good news! The ISR Committe of the Milwaukee School Board approved the Alliance School contract with the Professional Development Center (PDC) at 234 W. Galena St. as our location for the 2005-2006 school year. This location will provide us with a solid downtown location close to many of our partners and friends. A special thank you to all of our friends who came to the hearings as a show of support! April 26 2005Jane Hampden of WUWM's "At 10" interviewed Jennifer Wilson, School Counselor, about Alliance along with Will Fellows about the Gender Variant Conference being held at WCTC on May 7, 2005. The program aired on Friday, May 6 at 10:00 am and again at 10:00 pm. April 11 2005Time Magazine published an article in their April 18th edition on the effects of bullying and interviewed Lashanda, one of the students planning on attending The Alliance School. Read the article to find out more about her experience. April 7 2005Michelangelo Signorile, host of the Sirius Out Q Satellite Radio Show, interviewed Tina about The Alliance School. One caller from Milwaukee told her story and said "I think they are secretly saving lives at The Alliance School." What a powerful message that is about how much this school is needed. Thank you, Laurie, from Milwaukee! April 7 2005Tina Owen, Ashley Werner and Lorie Bump traveled to New York to be interviewed By Charlie Gibson of ABC's Good Morning America Show.
